The Winnipeg Humane Society is currently seeking volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors. The Board’s role is to provide governance and guidance as the WHS continues to build and maintain the trust of the community in all our programs. We strive to fulfill the organization’s mission statement, be prudent and ethical in all our activities, remain transparent and accountable to the organization and its members, develop a strategic plan and provide guidance in its execution, act with integrity in the best interests of the organization, and fulfill our duties of diligence, loyalty, and management. Our meetings focus on planning, policy-making, and assessing the organization’s progress in its fulfillment of the mission statement. We are growing – this is an excellent opportunity for you to participate in making a difference in your community. Our success means better protection for animals suffering and to promote their welfare and dignity.
To qualify for this position, you must:
- Be able to read and accurately interpret financial statements
- Be able to lead discussion and resolution of financial matters
- Have effective interpersonal skills
- Have sufficient time to devote to these added responsibilities
Additionally, an accounting/finance background (with a CPA designation), marketing or communications background, or engineering background would be a strong asset.
Your time commitment is from anywhere between 5 to 10 hours per month, depending on current levels of activity. The Board meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with no meetings scheduled for July, August, and January. All available positions are elected at each Annual General Meeting for a minimum term of three years. The Board elects its officers.
